of Girls and Women in Africa

The International Centre for the Education of Girls and Women in Africa (CIEFFA) has been a specialized agency of the African Union since 2004. In 2005, CIEFFA became a Category II Centre under the auspices of UNESCO at the thirty third session of the general conference, with its centre in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Its goals include:
①developing the policies, guidelines, strategies and guidance to help all stakeholders to address gender equality and equity issues;
②playing a leading role in the learning environment and to advocate for the development of gender sensitive schools;
③increasing girls' enrolment and retention in the African education system,
④conducting more effective analysis of girls and women' education and training.
